Exhibition preview: Scales, Edinburgh (The Guardian, UK)

Any alteration to the scale of a subject tends to disorientate: closing in on insignificant details, imbues them with a significance that is all the more striking for being apparently unwarranted. Here three artists size the world up. Gregory Chatonsky’s interactive installation takes a long, close-up look at the unique delicacy of our fingerprints. Michael Zansky’s five large-scale photographic prints focus on the uncanny 3-D illusions of dioramas through which nature is shrunk to the size of a museum tableau. Through computer-assisted drawing, Michael Rees envisages hybrid human forms that go on to take their public place as site-specific sculptures that look like blown-up dolls for grown-ups
