Selon Benjamin, « l’infinité de la réflexion n’est pas une infinité de la progression mais une infinité de la connexion » dans le Romantisme. Aucun média ne se suffit à lui-même, la réduction est impossible, la variablité et la connexion rythme le passage d’une association de médias à une autre.
