Rhizomes<\/em> est un projet d’installation sur internet qui a d\u00e9but\u00e9 apr\u00e8s la temp\u00e8te de d\u00e9cembre 1999 en France. D\u00e9but 2000 : un arbre remplissait l’espace de la cour du M\u00fbrier des beaux-arts de Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab\u00a0Le rhizome est un syst\u00e8me accentr\u00e9, non hi\u00e9rarchique et non signifiant, sans G\u00e9n\u00e9ral, sans m\u00e9moire organisatrice ou automate central, uniquement d\u00e9fini par une circulation d’\u00e9tats.\u00a0\u00bb \u00ab\u00a0Un rhizome ne commence et n’aboutit pas, il est toujours au milieu, entre les choses, inter-\u00eatre, intermezzo. L’arbre est filiation, mais le rhizome est alliance, uniquement d’alliance. L’arbre impose le verbre \u00ab\u00a0\u00eatre\u00a0\u00bb, mais le rhizome a pour tissu la conjonction \u00ab\u00a0et… et… et… \u00ab\u00a0. Il y a dans cette conjonction assez de force pour secouer et d\u00e9raciner le verbe \u00eatre. (…) Entre les choses ne d\u00e9signe pas une relation localisable qui va de l’une \u00e0 l’autre et r\u00e9ciproquement, mais une direction perpendiculaire, un mouvement transversal qui les emporte l’une et l’autre, ruisseau sans d\u00e9but ni fin, qui ronge ses deux rives et prend de la vitesse au milieu.\u00a0\u00bb Gilles Deleuze et F\u00e9lix Guattari : Rhizome<\/em> in Mille plateaux<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mode d’emploi : 
Pour r\u00e9ussir notre mission, il faut si vous l’acceptez que vous deveniez une partie de ce rhizome… 
– Devenir pour un temps h\u00e9bergeur d’une image et de 2 fichiers html, 
– Me confirmer par mail que vous \u00eates d’accord (c’est \u00e0 dire que vous acceptez de mettre une image dans votre site), 
– Je vous repond en vous envoyant l’image, 
– Vous me repondez en me donnant l’adresse de cette image sur internet, 
– Puis quand toutes les images seront distribu\u00e9es (\u00e0 192 personnes), 
– Je vous envoie 2 fichiers html que vous mettrez dans le m\u00eame r\u00e9pertoire que l’image (si possible nomm\u00e9 rhizomes), 
– Puis nous d\u00e9couvrirons ensemble la reconstitution de l’image rhizomatique…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rhizomes<\/em> as an experimental attempt in constructing a transitory collective work on the Web.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab\u00a0A rhizome as no beginning or end; it is always in the middle, between things, interbeing, intermezzo. The trees is filiation, but the rhizome is alliance, uniquely alliance. The tree imposes the verb \u00ab\u00a0to be,\u00a0\u00bb but the fabric of the rhizome is the conjunction, \u00ab\u00a0and… and… and…\u00a0\u00bb This conjunction carries enough forces to shake and uproot the verb \u00ab\u00a0to be.\u00a0\u00bb (…) Between things does not designate a localizable relation going from one thing to the other and back again, but a perpendicular direction, a transversal movement that sweeps one and the other way, a stream without beginnig or end that undermines its bank and picks up speed in the middle.\u00a0\u00bb Rhizome<\/em> in Mille plateaux<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rhizome is a figurative term used by Felix Guattari and Gilles Deleuze in their book A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia<\/em> to describe non-hierarchical networks of all kinds. \u00ab\u00a0A rhizome as a subterranean stem is absolutely different from roots and radicles. Bulbs and tubers are rhizomes. Plants with roots or radicles may be rhizomorphic in other respects altogether. Burrows are too, in all their functions of shelter, supply, movement, evasion, and breakout. The rhizome itself assumes very diverse forms, from ramified surface extension in all directions to concretion into bulbs and tubers… The rhizome includes the best and the worst: potato and couch grass, or the weed.\u00a0\u00bb (Deleuze & Guattari, 1987, p. 6-7)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A rhizome doesn’t begin and doesn’t end, but is always in the middle, between things, interbeing, intermezzo.
A transitory (ephemeral) work on Internet… <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Users guide: 
If you want take part in this project, you will have to be a member of the rhizome… 
– To qualify for this, you have to host an image and 2 html files, 
– If you agree, confirm by sending me an e-mail, 
– I will send you the image, 
– Then you give me the adress of the folder in wich you have placed the image, 
– I will send you the 2 html files, place them in the same folder as the image,
