Mutation, c\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est ce qui pourrait caract\u00c3\u00a9riser l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c3\u00a9tat du design graphique actuel, \u00c3\u00a0 la fronti\u00c3\u00a8re ou plut\u00c3\u00b4t dans une circulation permanente entre l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122art, le design et la communication. Si le papier \u00c3\u00a9tait \u00c3\u00a0 l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122origine l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122espace de travail privil\u00c3\u00a9gi\u00c3\u00a9, le web, les nouveaux m\u00c3\u00a9dias (clip, t\u00c3\u00a9l\u00c3\u00a9phonies, consoles de jeux, etc.) \u00c3\u00a9tendent les domaines d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122intervention possibles.
\nMutation, c\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est aussi ce qui peut d\u00c3\u00a9finir l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122environnement de l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c3\u00a9cole sup\u00c3\u00a9rieure d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122art de Lorient. Elle s\u00e2\u20ac\u2122inscrit dans un espace \u00c3\u00a0 la fois portuaire et militaire. Dans les deux cas, beaucoup de b\u00c3\u00a2timents se trouvent actuellement d\u00c3\u00a9saffect\u00c3\u00a9s. Ces espaces posent, indirectement et directement des questions de soci\u00c3\u00a9t\u00c3\u00a9, d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122activit\u00c3\u00a9s, d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122environnement, etc. Bon nombre des lieux \u00c3\u00a9taient li\u00c3\u00a9s \u00c3\u00a0 l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122activit\u00c3\u00a9 portuaire (p\u00c3\u00aache, commerce) et aussi \u00c3\u00a0 des marques d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122un pass\u00c3\u00a9 militaire (la plus importante base de sous-marins allemands, ensuite utilis\u00c3\u00a9e par la marine nationale). Aujourd\u00e2\u20ac\u2122hui pour des raisons diff\u00c3\u00a9rentes, r\u00c3\u00a9duction importante de la flotte de bateaux de p\u00c3\u00aache, restructuration des activit\u00c3\u00a9s de la d\u00c3\u00a9fense, ils sont inutilis\u00c3\u00a9s ou reconvertis. Ils sont les signes d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122une soci\u00c3\u00a9t\u00c3\u00a9 qui se transforme. C\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est ce terrain dont va se servir \u00c2\u00abK3\u00c2\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le projet K3 n\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est pas de faire une exposition de plus, mais de r\u00c3\u00a9unir sur un temps court (une semaine) des artistes, des graphistes et des th\u00c3\u00a9oriciens, qui sont au c\u00c5\u201cur de la production graphique et artistique actuelle.
\nDepuis l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c3\u00a9cole des beaux-arts, cet \u00c3\u00a9v\u00c3\u00a9nement d\u00c3\u00a9veloppe \u00c3\u00a0 la fois des workshops, des tables rondes et des propositions dans l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122espace public, ainsi qu’un journal et un concert. Des temps d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122exp\u00c3\u00a9rimentation o\u00c3\u00b9 les pratiques se confrontent, s’activent les unes les autres. L\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c3\u00a9v\u00c3\u00a9nement n\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est plus celui de l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122objet fini (exposition) mais celui d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122une pens\u00c3\u00a9e qui s\u00e2\u20ac\u2122active durant une p\u00c3\u00a9riode donn\u00c3\u00a9e. Les \u00c3\u00a9tudiants des \u00c3\u00a9coles d’arts d’Amiens, Lorient, Quimper, Brest, Rennes, Pau, Cambrai et l’ERG (Bruxelles) sont au c\u00c5\u201cur du projet, et la manifestation est aussi ouverte \u00c3\u00a0 un public plus large.
\nK3 se d\u00c3\u00a9veloppe en partie sur l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ancienne base de sous-marins. L\u00e2\u20ac\u2122id\u00c3\u00a9e n\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est pas d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122essayer de r\u00c3\u00a9habiliter ces lieux, mais pour cet \u00c3\u00a9v\u00c3\u00a9nement les \u00c2\u00abr\u00c3\u00a9affecter\u00c2\u00bb, pendant une soir\u00c3\u00a9e ou sur la semaine de la manifestation. Les interventions se font sans restaurer les b\u00c3\u00a2timents, en s\u00e2\u20ac\u2122installant dans ces environnements de mani\u00c3\u00a8re pr\u00c3\u00a9caire, comme on peut le faire pour un chantier.<\/p>\n

K3 s\u00e2\u20ac\u2122est construit sur une notion de propagation et de circulation, avec l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122envie de r\u00c3\u00a9activer certains lieux, de lier diff\u00c3\u00a9rentes disciplines. Le mode de fonctionnement de K3 se situe dans cette logique de connexions : que ce soit d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122un m\u00c3\u00a9dium \u00c3\u00a0 un autre, d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122un moyen de diffusion \u00c3\u00a0 un autre ou d\u00e2\u20ac\u2122un endroit \u00c3\u00a0 un autre.
\nK3 se d\u00c3\u00a9veloppe sur trois axes : l\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00c3\u2030<\/span>cole Sup\u00c3\u00a9rieure d’Art\/ la zone portuaire (K3, cit\u00c3\u00a9 de la voile) \/ le centre ville, mis en r\u00c3\u00a9seau par les lignes de bus et la mise \u00c3\u00a0 disposition de v\u00c3\u00a9los.<\/span><\/p>\n

The opening of a Graphic Art & Design department at the Fine Art School of Lorient (Brittany) has been the motor for developing a working space related to design graphic & visual arts, and to question what it is to teach graphic design today.
\nIt seemed natural to invite graphic designers, artists, art & design historians, to mix various mediums and practice in order to activate a space for exchanges and experimentations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mutation is the word that could summarise the current state of design graphic in France: a discipline that is at the border – or in constant circulation between – art, design, and communication.
\nIf print was originally the main frame of work, the web and new medias (video, mobile phone, videogame..) now broaden and redefine this frame.
\nMutation is also the word that could define the Lorient Fine Art School environment and site. The school is built on a location both industrial (fishing harbour) and military. In both case, most of the buildings around it are vacant. These abandoned spaces question more or less directly our society, activities, and environment…
\nA lot of them were formerly used for storage, industrial fishing, and business. They also bear the trace of a military past (the most important WWll German submarine station lays within 5mn from the school, and was still used by the French army until recently).
\nFor many reasons, most of these buildings are left as they are, or are beginning to be restored. They are the signs of the society shift.
\nIt is this territory that K3 is going to use.<\/p>\n

The project is not to set up one more exhibition or festival, but on a short period of time (one week) to gather artists, graphic designers, art historians & critics that are cutting edge in the contemporary production. K3 is not an exhibition or a festival but the activation of a thought, an ongoing discussion happening within one week. From the Fine art School, workshops, discussions, art & design propositions in Public space are set up. The students are the actors of the project, and all events are open to the wide public.
\nK3 will mainly take place in the former Submarine station, with the will to re-affect this place without refurbish it, as if it were just a construction site.<\/p>\n
