It’s an oeuvre unmistakably conceived in terms of its critical and historical links with the possibilities and vicissitudes of film and writing, from where it has taken the unusual relations between space, light, language and objects, and their seductiveness and indefiniteness.
However, while his work and installations turn to a wide range of genre, media and discourses, both highbrow and popular, they always encompass a cerain disdain for the commonplace, a certain opacity, and the experiene of his oeuvre usually implies acceptance of the impossibility of immediacy and coherence. »
(…)
With this adaptations, stagings and compositions embracing multiple references that usually favor presentations characterized by imperceptible folds and disjunctions, Evans never privileges a phenomenological reading of space or a literal use of material (such as bright neon lights, philosophical texts, mirrors, plants and fireworks) and their links, affinities and kinships, that often give rise to slight disturbances and disorders, suggest interruptions and intrusions that displace registers and perceptions. Nothing is as it seems : in this multiform and intertextual space, emphasis appears to fall between presences and absences. What seems inescapable and prevailing is the establishment of what the artist enunciates as an occasion, a scenario, a cipher against metaphors, « something standing in for something that doesn’t stand in for something else ». «

You Turn Me On, c’est le nom du projet sur lequel je réfléchis en ce moment, et pour lequel je suis en train de monter un dossier de subvention.
